On this day in Australian aviation history:

2003 The first two Operation Slipper aircraft, Lockheed AP-3C Orions A9-659 and A9-751, arrived at Al Minhad Air Base in the UAE on 16/17 January 2003. The deployment of two AP-3Cs to the Middle East was to be the RAAF’s most enduring maritime aircraft commitment to contain the terrorist threat post the September 11 terrorist attacks.
